Role of Capital Strategist

The Capital Strategist’s role will be to support the Capital Desk by developing trading strategies on the markets which the desk is active in.  The Strategist will be responsible for:

(i)identifying trading opportunities using technical or fundamental analysis;

(ii)putting together strategies to take advantage of these opportunities, including entry, exit and risk capital management; and

(iii)obtaining buy-in on these strategy and helping the traders implement them.

Examples of strategies which the Capital Strategist might be looking at could include:

• Taking advantage of any arbitrage opportunity arising from quarterly and annual capacity/transmission auctions vs. locational spreads. 
• Trading around positions generated from participation in annual capacity auctions in France / Germany.
• Creating technical vs. relative value strategy for trading outright dark/spark spreads based on historical analysis.
• Trading around the relationship of CO2 vs. the price of coal and natural gas and its impact on generators.
• Reviewing impact of yearly Co2 auctions on OTC market prices.
• Hedging strategy and/or methodology for illiquid markets, including structured products offered on Essent Express.
• Observing historical trends vs. current market conditions.  Technical analysis strategies, ie. MACD, Momentum, etc.
• Relationship between WTI and Brent

Reporting

For organizational reasons, the role will formally sit within S&A’s Quantitative Analysis team. However:

• The Capital Strategist will work solely for the Capital Desk;
• His/her workload will be determined by the VP Capital Trading; and
• His/her bonus will be intimately linked to the success of the strategies he/she develops and fall under the VP Capital Trading’s responsibility.
